Abstract

his study examined the effect of child labour on the academic performance of selected secondary school students in Ilesa East Local Goverment of Osun State using descriptive research method. One hundred and fifty (150) questionnaires were administered and analyzed using SPSS statistical package. The study found that about 82% of the respondents agreed that child labour impacts negatively on the psychological development of students. 81.4% agreed that child labour leads to exhaustion and insufficient time for academic work, thus impacts negatively on student's performance. 83% agreed that child labour is usually the implication of the poverty level in the society. The study concluded that child labour hampers the academic performance of students in Ilesa East LGA and thus recommend that government at all levels should help curb the poverty rate in the society by good governance as well as educate parents on the need to send their wards to school.
