The study adopted a descriptive survey, research design. The population comprised all secondary school students in the study area, with 200 students purposively selected among the secondary schools. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed through frequency counts, mean, standard deviations and simple percentages. The results showed that students were engaged in school farm activities of cash crops, food crops production and sale of farm produce within the school premises. It further showed that environmental, social and economic insecurities hinder the effective utilization of school farms for the development of entrepreneurial skills of the students to promote self-reliance and reduce youth unemployment in the nation. The study therefore recommended that, targeted interventions such as increased funding, enhanced security measures, curriculum integration, teacher training, community engagement, student involvement and marketing support in school farm activities should be implemented so as to enhance students' development of entrepreneurial skills through agriculture, promote food security and zero hunger as stated in Sustainable Development Goals.

2026-05-25T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Ife Journal of Contemporary Issues in Education https://ijcie.oauife.edu.ng/index.php/ijcie/article/view/130 LEADERSHIP STYLE: IMPETUS FOR INNOVATIONS AND IMPROVEMENT IN NIGERIAN SCHOOLS' SYSTEM 2026-05-25T12:05:46+00:00 AZEEZ BABATUNDE ADEBAKIN adebakinazeez@oauife.edu.ng HASSAN KEHINDE OLASUPO hassankehinde37@gmail.com
Education remains the engine room for the growth and development of any nation including Nigeria. In educational institutions, there must be a force to manage both the human and material resources towards achieving educational goals. A force is needed in schools to guide the activities of teaching, non-teaching staff and students towards achievement of the institution's goals. Leadership provides the needed force. The Administrators in the schools are view to be the leaders responsible for innovations and improvement in the school system. Leadership is the act of influencing a group of people in a particular situation towards the achievement of a goal or a set of goals. Therefore, the paper examined the concept of leadership, leadership styles, functions, qualities and drawing on theoretical insights for innovations and improvement in Nigerian schools system. It identified some of the challenges facing the leaders in educational industries among which are; high cost of education, manpower problem, poor equip libraries, poor management among others. The paper suggested potential solutions for innovations and improvement in educational institution in Nigeria, including capacity building and manpower development, provision of adequate funding as recommended by UNESCO, adequate school planning and proper management of educational system. This study provides valuable insights for stakeholders and policymaker in educational industry to address the challenges and improve the innovations and mprovement in Nigerian school system.

2026-05-25T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Ife Journal of Contemporary Issues in Education https://ijcie.oauife.edu.ng/index.php/ijcie/article/view/131 POVERTY CUM SECONDARY SCHOOL CURRICULUM CHANGE AND ITS IMPLEMENTATION FOR THE ATTAINMENT OF QUALITY 2026-05-25T12:10:59+00:00 ADEGBITE DORCAS OLAYEMI adegbitedo@eauedoyo.edu.ng
The study examined the place of the generative artificial intelligence in the face of poverty level in the Nigerian secondary schools? curriculum. It was to see the classroom activities and specifically the learning materials used by the students. This was with the view to improving teaching and learning activities in Social Studies curriculum. A survey research design was adopted with observation type for the study. The population consisted of junior secondary school I-III Social Studies students and teachers in Oyo State. A sample of 1,500 was drawn from the population for the study. Random sampling technique was used to select 1,400 students, 100 randomly selected Social Studies teachers. Data for the study were collected using an instrument named: “Observation Checklists for Social Studies Curriculum Implementation”(OCSSI). The items covered the content in the teachers? schemes of work, curriculum as well as the learning materials used by the students in the classroom teaching. The data gathered were analysed using percentages and descriptive statistics. The results showed that the implementation of Social Studies was in line with the National Social Studies curriculum with the positive relationship (r = 0.795) between Social Studies content and the actual implementation in classroom teaching. It was concluded that if the constraints of shortage of learning materials is addressed by the parents, Social Studies curriculum could be better implemented. Recommendations were made like; parents should ensure needs of their children in school are adequately provided. Government should assist learners who are less privileged in meeting with the demands of classroom activities in providing for the learners.

2026-05-25T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Ife Journal of Contemporary Issues in Education https://ijcie.oauife.edu.ng/index.php/ijcie/article/view/132 DIGITAL INSECURITY AND EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION IN THE DIGITAL AGE 2026-05-25T12:14:44+00:00 HANNAH OLUBUNMI AJAYI hajayib@oauife.edu.ng
Nigeria, like other developing countries, is fast growing in the use of digital to the extent that the country is rated as one with the largest Internet connectivity in Africa and mobile phones usage (UNESCO,2022; Ajayi, Okewole & Salami, 2021). Various digital devies such as learning management systems (Moodle, canvas), video conferencing tools (Zoom, Microsoft teams, slacks, Google classroom), interactive learning tools (Kahoot, Nearpot), STEM and coding platforms ( Stratch, Tinkercad), educational resources and content (Khan academy) and many others are in use. Every sector is embracing these digital technologies for effectiveness in services, productivity and connectivity among other reasons (UN, 2020). In the education sector also, the tools are gaining ground, especially since COVID-19 pandemic when schools were shut down for some time. Most schools resulted to digital schooling in order to avoid knowledge diminishing among learners, though there was still disparity in the level of access. The early childhood education level is also not exempted in the use of digital technologies with the notion of enhancing learning and preparing the children for a digital future (Hatzigianni, et. al. 2023). In spite of the benefits of digital technologies to teaching-learning process even at early years, one of the challenges that is not being taking seriously, is the insecurity connected to digital technologies. This paper therefore, examined the insecurity posed by digital technologies not only to the learning but also the well-being of children. The theories on which the paper was premised were discussed emphasising the relevance to the issue. It also reiterated the role all stakeholders in early childhood education play in curtailing digital insecurity.

2026-05-25T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Ife Journal of Contemporary Issues in Education https://ijcie.oauife.edu.ng/index.php/ijcie/article/view/133 INSECURITY AS A COG IN BASIC EDUCATION IN NIGERIA 2026-05-25T12:18:56+00:00 Shamsideen Adio Amusa Samyem88@gmail.com
Insecurity significantly hampers basic education in Nigeria, manifesting through various forms of violence, abductions, and terrorism. This disruption affects enrollment rates in the North, South-West and South -East thereby undermining the quality of education. More than half of all schools in the northeastern state of Borno, Nigeria, are closed with millions of children unable to start classes because of the ongoing threat of Boko Haram. For instance, the persistent threat from the terrorists has led to the closure and destruction of over 1,400 schools, leaving millions of children without access to education..The paper will also examine, how Kenya'sAl Shabaab's presence has significantly disrupted education in the country, particularly in the north-eastern region, leading to school closures, teacher exodus, and a potential increase in vulnerable youth susceptible to recruitment by the militant group. The impact of insecurity from banditry and inter-communal violence has also disrupted schooling, particularly in rural areas, where children face 9dangers on their way to school. In Mali, the rise of extremist groups has resulted in the shutdown of schools, particularly in conflict-affected regions, forcing children to abandon their education. These examples highlight a broader trend across Africa, where insecurity poses a formidable challenge to educational attainment. The interplay of violence, fear, and displacement creates an environment where learning becomes secondary to survival, ultimately stunting national development and exacerbating cycles of poverty and instability. Addressing insecurity in Nigeria and similar contexts is imperative for restoring access to basic education and ensuring that children can learn in a safe and supportive environment.

2026-05-25T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Ife Journal of Contemporary Issues in Education https://ijcie.oauife.edu.ng/index.php/ijcie/article/view/134 INSECURITY AND POVERTY AS CONSTRAINTS TO ECONOMICS EDUCATION IN NIGERIA: AN EMPIRICAL STUDY OF THEIR IMPACT ON NATIONAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT 2026-05-25T12:24:22+00:00 ORUNNA, B. BERNARD borunna@unilag.edu.ng CYNTHIA UCHE UBOGU 081318079live@unilag.edu.ng
Insecurity and poverty have emerged as significant challenges to educational development in Nigeria, particularly affecting the teaching and learning of Economics at various levels. In Nigeria, the pursuit of national economic development is intrinsically tied to the quality and reach of education, particularly Economics education, which plays a critical role in producing economically literate and productive citizens. However, persistent insecurity and widespread poverty pose significant barriers to the effective delivery of this subject. This study explored the extent to which insecurity and poverty constrain Economics education in Nigeria and the subsequent implications for national economic development. Using a mixed-method approach, the research surveyed secondary school students and teachers across regions heavily affected by insurgencies and economic deprivation. Results reveal that insecurity leads to school closures, psychological trauma, displacement, and a decline in teacher morale, while poverty restricts students' access to learning materials, causes absenteeism, and forces early school withdrawal. The findings underscore the need for integrated policy responses that enhance security, alleviate poverty, and strengthen Economics education as a pathway to sustainable economic development. The study found a statistically significant negative relationship between the levels of insecurity and poverty and students' performance in Economics. It concluded that addressing these dual challenges is crucial to ensuring the transformative role of Economics education in national development. Strategic policy interventions, improved security architecture, poverty alleviation programs, and targeted educational support systems are recommended as imperative measures.

2026-05-25T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Ife Journal of Contemporary Issues in Education https://ijcie.oauife.edu.ng/index.php/ijcie/article/view/135 EFFECTS OF AUDIO-VISUAL INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS ON STUDENTS' ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN MATHEMATICS IN OGBOMOSO SOUTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF OYO STATE, NIGERIA 2026-05-25T12:35:24+00:00 OLATUNJI OLUSUJI ijcie@oauife.edu.ng
The study determined the effect of application of audio-visual instructional materials in the teaching of Mathematics in Ogbomoso South Local Government Area of Oyo State, Nigeria. Descriptive research design was used for the study. The population comprised 601 principals and 6,982 teachers in Osun State public secondary schools. Multistage sampling procedure was adopted for this study. The sample was made up of 495 respondents which comprised 45 principals and 450 teachers. From each senatorial district, three Local Government Areas (LGAs) were selected using simple random sampling technique. Five schools were also selected from each Local Government Area using simple random sampling technique. Ten teachers from each school were selected using purposive sampling technique. The teachers selected were those that had been in the schools for a minimum of three years. This was to ensure that they could give accurate information about their principals' use of administrative strategies. Two sets of researchers' constructed questionnaire were used to collect data for the study. The first titled “Principals' Administrative Strategies and Quality Assurance Questionnaire” (PASQAQ) and the second titled: “Administrative Strategies and Quality Assurance” (ASQA). The data collected were analysed using appropriate descriptive statistics to answer research questions raised and inferential statistics to test the formulated hypothesis. The findings showed that delegation (23.8%), coordinating (20.8%), discipline (20%), supervision (17.7%), organising (9.6%), and planning (8.1%) were administrative strategies adopted by principals in schools. It was revealed that the level of administrative strategies adopted by principals was moderate (64.3%). The study concluded that principals' administrative strategies were moderate and are crucial for the enhancement of quality assurance in secondary schools in Osun State. It was recommended that principals in secondary schools should intensify efforts in making sure that school administrators' strategies are used in secondary schools within Osun State.

2026-05-25T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Ife Journal of Contemporary Issues in Education https://ijcie.oauife.edu.ng/index.php/ijcie/article/view/137 EXCLUSIVE BREASTFEEDING AS A NATURAL COST REDUCTION STRATEGY IN CHILD REARING AMONG MOTHERS OF CHILDREN UNDER FIVE IN OSUN STATE, NIGERIA 2026-05-25T12:43:15+00:00 RACHAEL IYABO Odekunle rachaelodekunle432@gmail.com STEPHEN ABIODUN ODEKUNLE odekunleabbey@yahoo.com
This study examined the role of exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) as a cost-saving practice among mothers of children under the age of five in Osun State, Nigeria. Using a cross-sectional survey design, data were collected from 200 mothers to assess the prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding and to identify the key factors influencing its adoption. The findings reveal that while many mothers initiate EBF during the first six months of life, several factors impact its sustainability. These include financial pressures, medical advice, physical challenges such as inadequate milk supply, and discomfort during breastfeeding. Notably, the study highlights the significant influence of healthcare professionals in promoting exclusive breastfeeding practices. Mothers who adhered to EBF reported reduced instances of illness in their children and correspondingly lower healthcare costs. These outcomes emphasize the dual value of EBF, not only in fostering child health but also in minimizing household medical expenditures. The study recommended comprehensive interventions aimed at supporting breastfeeding mothers. These include financial assistance for economically disadvantaged households, enhanced training for healthcare personnel to provide consistent breastfeeding support, and community-based education programs to raise awareness. Strengthening these structures is vital for improving child nutrition, enhancing maternal well-being, and reducing the economic burden on families in Osun State.

2026-05-25T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Ife Journal of Contemporary Issues in Education https://ijcie.oauife.edu.ng/index.php/ijcie/article/view/140 DEVELOPMENT OF SECURITY CONTROL SMART CARD USED IN BANKING SECTOR 2026-05-25T13:04:37+00:00 SAM-EKEKE DORIS CHISARA Samekekedoris@gmail.com UKANSI UKANSI KALU ijcie@oauife.edu.ng
Banking services have elevated from the traditional method to transaction (or the one aided by technology to the one that can be done from the comfort of one's convenience from home). This has given rise to system integration toward ATM networks implementation in Nigeria that e-banking, e-shopping etc. The infrastructure such as good Telecommunication, been internet service etc. has achieved greater penetration and raising the level of awareness among the banking public that they do not necessarily or physically need to internet with the teller in his bank for him to achieved his cash needs. This negligence and lack of attendant attitude is what the God of Israel is addressing to the leadership of Israel. The aim and objective of this paper is to draw clearly the thin line between indictment and restoration in Jeremiah 23 as our pivot text. In order to achieve that, the following methods were used: historical, exegetical, textual and syntactical- theological method. These approaches were found viable in researching biblical themes with accurate interpretation. The discoveries made were astounding for it reveals Yahweh's starling quality of untiring desire for shepherding it also reveals that Judgment and restoration have messianic tone; therefore, the study thus recommends that both the sacred and secular leadership should learn to give good governance to the people under their Jurisdiction for all are under the supervision of Yahweh and every leadership is answerable to Yahweh.

2026-05-25T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Ife Journal of Contemporary Issues in Education
