Abstract

The study examined the home environment and parental occupation as correlates of academic performance of lower primary school pupils' in Basic Science in Ondo State, Nigeria. Descriptive Survey Research Design was used in which data from 90 pupils was collected using self administered questionnaire from two public Primary schools in Ondo West Local Government Area. The Data were analyzed using regression analysis. The result is elucidated in two forms; demographic analysis and descriptive analysis. The study results indicated a weak positive correlation between home environment and pupils' academic performance. It also revealed that there is significant difference in the pupils' parental occupation as this has a significant effect on the academic performance of the pupils. Finally, recommendations were made to parents, policy makers and educational administrators
