USE OF VISUAL MATERIALS FOR THE TEACHING OF MORPHOLOGY IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE IN JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN ISOKAN LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, OSUN STATE

The study assessed the availability of various visual materials that are available for the teaching of morphology in English Language in junior secondary schools in Isokan Local Government Area, Osun State. The population for the study comprised English Language teachers in junior secondary schools in Isokan Local Government Area, Osun State. The sample for the study consisted of 40 English Language teachers in junior secondary schools in study area. Multistage sampling procedure was used to select the sample for the study. In the Local Government Area (LGA), 20 secondary schools were selected using simple random sampling technique. In each school, two English Language teachers were selected using simple random sampling technique totaling 40 teachers that constituted the sample for the study. Two research instruments tagged ''Visual Materials Observation Checklist'' (VMOC) and ''Teachers' Usage of Visual Materials Questionnaire'' (TUVMQ) were used to collect data for the study. Data collected were analyzed using frequency and percentage statistical tools. Results of the study showed that posters, graphics, tables, chairs, picture books, board drawings, word calendars, computers, radio and pictures at 50.0% and above are the visual materials that are available for the teaching of morphology in English Language in junior secondary schools in Isokan Local Government Area, Osun State. Results also revealed that posters, graphics, tables, chairs, picture books, board drawing, radio and pictures at 50.0% and above are the visual materials that are adequate for the teaching of morphology in English Language in Isokan Local Government Area, Osun State. The study concluded that some visual materials were available and adequate even though the level at which teachers utilized them for the teaching of morphology in English Language in junior secondary schools was moderate in the study area.
