Abstract

Observations show that child abuse has not only become a common phenomenon in homes, communities, secondary schools, higher institutions but also in primary schools which is evident that it has caused a setback in the educational development among the pupils. This paper therefore, looked into the incessant of child abuse in lower primary schools and its implications on basic education. Based on the prevalence of abuses in schools, the paper suggested among others that the public, schools, parents and guidance should be educated through a special programme to encounter the ignorance being exhibited on the acts that constitute abuse and to give
room for protecting the Nigerian child against the abuses so as to enable them to have maximal benefit from basic education.
